Tummy Tuck

"The Tummy Tuck is the procedure that will allow you to remove fat and sagging skin that is associated with weight loss and pregnancy."

Abdominoplasty is performed through two incisions, the first one from one of the hip bone to the other bone, going through the pubis, along the bikini line and the second incision is made at the level of the navel to separate it from the abdominal wall.

The next step is to peel off the skin of the abdominal wall to the bottom edge of the last rib, exposing the rectus abdominis muscles. These muscles are realigned, in order to give firmness to the abdominal wall.

The skin is then stretched down and the excess is removed. A hole is made for the relocation of the umbilicus in an anatomic position and finally made the sutures involved.

At the same time, scars, stretch marks and pre-existing ventral hernias are removed.

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia plus sedation, and can last 3 hours or so. In most cases the procedure is outpatient, although there is the chance that the surgeon recommended an overnight stay in the clinic, for control purposes. The post-surgical recovery is quick and hassle free.

The following week the patient can resume the normal working life, although without engaging in activities requiring physical exertion during the first days after surgery.
