Penis Curvature
"This surgery is performed in cases where the curvature is very pronounced and forbid sexual intercourse."
There are two types of Penile Curvature:
Congenital Curvature: the patient is born with curve penis or along his growth, the penis curves. This malformation is presented in a ventral, dorsal and lateral way and may be caused by hyperplasia of the corpora cavernosa on one side or hypoplasia; sometimes, it can be caused by the extension of the aponeurosis or fascia that surrounds the penis, being less developed on one of the sides, generating an inclination.
Acquired Curvature or Peyronie's Disease: the curvature of the penis and changes in the anatomy, are associated with diabetes, trauma, fractures of the penis or the result of urethral catheterization. Causes discomfort and does not allow penetration and the erection.
The surgeon corrects congenital or acquired malformation of the penis that curves it up or down, left or right, when in erect state.
The surgery is performed under local anesthesia plus sedation, and can last 2 hour or so. The procedure is outpatient; after the surgery is
done, the patient remains for a few hours in the clinic and then is discharged. The post-surgical recovery is quick and hassle free.
The patient should rest the first 24 hours and then resume his normal life without engaging in activities requiring physical effort for
approximately two weeks. Also, it is important to abstain from sexual intercourse for three weeks. After this period the patient can resume the sexual activity.
