Lasik
"Lasik, short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is one of the most popular laser techniques to eliminate nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism, and reducing dependence on glasses."
For good eyesight, the cornea and eye’s lens must refract light rays properly, so images are focused clearly on the retina. When there is a difference between the curvature of the cornea and the length of the eye, the images are blurred
The surgery consists in shaping the surface of the cornea by cutting and subsequent thinning of the cornea to correct refractive error. After cutting the outer surface of the corneal, laser impacts are applied on the cornea, replacing the previously sectioned corneal flap, so that the light rays focus clearly on the retina.
The surgery is performed under an anesthetic that numbs the surface of the eye, and can last up to 10 minutes per eye. The procedure is outpatient; after the surgery is done, the patient remains for a few hours in the clinic and then is discharged. The post-surgical recovery is quick and hassle free.
At 6 hours after the procedure is done, the patient is able to perform activities that require eye strain.
